Kota Kinabalu: Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) is targeting 25,000 participants from 5,000 registered companies in Sabah for its inaugural SSM Run – The Healthy One programme, to be held simultaneously nationwide on Oct 22.Its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zahrah Abd Wahab Fenner said the charity run is an initiative of Yayasan Kebajikan Amal Bakti Malaysia (YKABM) and aims to raise funds for the needy.

"We have already launched this event in Kuala Lumpur where SSM is based and Sabah is the first to launch it outside of Kuala Lumpur. From here, we will continue to promote the run in other states in the country," she said after the launching of the SSM Run by Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid, here, Saturday.

She said nationwide, SSM is targeting a total of 250,000 participants, an unprecedented event which would see the biggest number of participation in a single event, worthy of the Malaysia Guinness Book of Records.

"I also propose to YKABM that, perhaps, instead of just limiting the participation to companies, we could also open (the programme) to the public because many would want to take part in this event," she said.

The run will be flagged off at the same time in 14 locations across the country over a distance of between eight and 10km.

Zahrah said the run is a perfect opportunity for companies to promote their companies and build networks while at the same time, contribute to charity.

The SSM Run is held in a group format of three men and two women each and the starting venue for Sabah will be in the Likas Stadium. Further information regarding the run could be obtained by visiting the event's Facebook page at Larian SSM 2016.
