Kota Kinabalu: Pertubuhan NGO Angkatan Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (Agaras) called for investigations to be done on the Himpunan Rakyat Membantah Penarikan MyKad di Sabah (gathering to protest the recalling of MyKads in Sabah) which will allegedly take place here on May 31. "A poster which promoted the gathering, organised by several non-governmental organisations, has been circulated over Facebook and social media," said Agaras President Michael Frederick.

"Is it true that such gathering will be held, has it been given approval?" he questioned.

He said the act of organising the gathering on May 31 was also an insult and a disrespect to the natives of Sabah, especially the Kadazandusun ethnic community who will celebrate the Kaamatan Festival on that day.

He called on political leaders and non-governmental organisation leaders as well as Sabahans to lodge a police report.

Michael also expressed support for a recent statement by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili in Kota Marudu.

Ongkili had reiterated that both the Federal and State governments must expedite the retraction of illegally issued identity cards to foreigners and implement issuance of new documents and ICs to genuine Sabahans.

"We view this as something positive, the move is something that we as Sabahans have been waiting for a long time.

In fact, similar suggestions have been made in the past, as part of efforts to clear Sabah of illegal immigrants," said Michael.

He said they fully supported the move and urged Sabahans, especially the Mamagun community, to give their cooperation to the Government in implementing this mission.

"Efforts in recalling ICs and reissuing new ICs to genuine Sabahans, as suggested by several leaders in the State, is reasonable and should be expedited," he added.
