Kota Kinabalu: Divine intervention will help pave the way for the safe release of four Malaysian hostages kept captive by the Abu Sayyaf in Southern Mindanao.Guided with this strong faith, the Parish Family Pastoral Network of Kota Kinablu (Zone 37) will continue to offer special intention for the safety of the hostages in all Eucharistic celebrations every Friday.

Spearheaded by Viola Masudal and assisted by Howard Chin, they said the group comprising residents of Beverly Hills Apartments and those in Jalan Bundusan area are deeply concerned about the present predicaments of the Malaysian victims who were forcibly abducted in the international waters near Semporna several weeks ago.

Fr. Abel Mardisang, who celebrated Friday's holy mass at the residence of Nikko Fabian, is equally concerned about the welfare of the other hostages, especially Canadian John Hall, who faces imminent execution by the Abu Sayyaf if a P300 million ransom is not complied with by 3pm on June 13.

"I will continue to pray for the intervention of the Divine Mercy and at the same time calling all our faithfuls and other believers to include the safety of the hostages in their respective daily prayers, " he said.

Strongly advocating for "World Peace", he said prayers also go to all Malaysians, especially Sabahans, who are now celebrating the month-long Pesta Kaamatan.

"Peace to the whole world and blessed Pesta Kaamatan to each and everyone," he said.

Last week, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the police and the Malaysian Government are conducting negotiations, with good co-operation from the Philippine government and authorities and hope to free the victims.

The Malaysian captives face imminent threat of execution. The Abu Sayyaf have set an early May deadline for the families to begin negotiation for the hostages' release, failing which they will be executed.

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, on the other hand, said he will not allow the killing of the hostages by kidnappers or any militant groups operating in Mindanao or elsewhere in the country.

Concerned Filipinos in Sabah also recently posted an open letter to presumptive President of the Philippines calling for his intervention that would help pave way for the release of all the hostages.

Meanwhile, Howard said the Parish Family Pastoral Nework comprises of more than 43 zone groups in Kota Kinabalu and conducts house community eucharistic mass to strengthen the faith of members.

"It's a family bonding for members and serves as a venue for others to know about the Roman Catholic faith," he said.
