275 illegals held in Tawau op
Kota Kinabalu: A total of 713 people were rounded up for screening during an integrated operation led by the National Security Council Sabah in Tawau to trace and detain illegal immigrants.Out of the figure, a total of 275 comprising 148 Filipinos and 127 Indonesians, aged between 10 and 60, were arrested and sent to the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre for further action.

The operation ended about 5pm on Saturday.

Since January to date, the National Security Council Sabah inspected a total of 3,461 people and picked up 1,492 for documentation process, while the number of illegal immigrants remanded from January to date is 1,183 people.

A total of 5,244 illegal immigrants are currently being held in temporary detention centres in the State, namely 1,317 in Kota Kinabalu, 1,270 in Papar, 1,309 in Sibuga and 1,348 in Tawau.

A total of 9,500 illegal immigrants, comprising 7,798 Filipinos, 1,616 Indonesians and 86 others, have been deported since January.
