Hainans take first title

Kota Kinabalu: Hainan Association Kota Kinabalu took the first title at the 3rd Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race 2016 by winning the FCAS Trophy 800m (Local Chinese Communities Association Mix Team) event held at the Likas Bay, Saturday.In the only final held on the opening day witnessed by Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) President Datuk Seri TC Goh, organising chairperson Datuk Susan Wong and other officials, the champion crossed the finishing line first with a time of 3 mins 56.11s, well ahead of second place winner Sze Yi Association (3:58.21s) and third place Hakka Association KK Youth (4:00.19s).

There were six teams at the start of the race where fourth to sixth place went to Kwong Siew Association, Persatuan Masyrakat Tai Poo Sabah and Hokkien Association KK, respectively.

Eight more finals will be held today (Sunday) and team Boracay Allstars from the Philippines who won the Head Of State Trophy (International and Top Malaysian Men Teams), Sabah Dragon Trophy (International and Malaysian Men Teams) and the Mix Team Open (200 metres, 12 crew) events last year are on course to defend their titles again after qualifying for the finals in the three categories.

Meanwhile, the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin with his spouse Toh Puan Norlidah Datuk R.M. Jasni, Chief Minister Daturl Seri Musa Aman and other cabinet ministers are expected to grace the event today which will start at 8am.
