Son of M'sia's Snake King fined

Kuala Lumpur: The son of Malaysia's snake king was Wednesday fined RM24,000 by the Sessions Court here for exhibiting three pythons without permits at a shopping complex.Judge Harmi Thamrin Mohamad @ shaharudin imposed the fine on Azman Khan Ali Khan after he pleaded guilty to two charges of exhibiting the snakes which were protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. He also ordered Azman Khan to be jailed for three months on every charge if he failed to pay the fines. The accused paid the fines.The judge said the accused not only required licences to keep numerous species of snakes but also needed permits to exhibit the snakes. Azman Khan was fined RM12,000 or three months' jail for exhibiting two reticulated pythons and another RM12,000 for exhibiting an Albino Burmese python.

Both the offences under Section 66 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 were committed at the five-foot way in front of Lot 10, Bukit Bintang, here, at 10.50 pm on May 30, 2014.According to the facts of the case, the accused was arrested while displaying the snakes, with members of the public allowed to hold the snakes and place them over their shoulders. – Bernama
