State action plan on banned group: Yong
Kota Kinabalu: The government must start background checks at all entry points into Sabah, if they are serious about implementing the resolution "to ban anyone who link themselves to the self-styled Sulu Sultan," said former Chief Minister Datuk Yong Teck Lee.

In a statement here on Friday, Yong, who is Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President, said all entry points include airports, sea ports and land borders.

He said Category 1 would be holders of Philippine passports and Category 2 those with dubious identity cards (MyKad).

"Since some of this category are already in Sabah, the question of 'banning' them from entry cannot arise. What does the government intend to do then?" Yong questioned.

"Category 3, no less important, are those who openly declare themselves as followers of another self-proclaimed "Sultan" of Sulu, namely Akjan Ali, who is or was an Umno local leader.

"The government should state its action plan on this group," he said.

The State Assembly on Thursday passed a special motion to ban PKR Vice Presidents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Tian Chua from entering Sabah.

The House also voted to ban anyone who supported or linked themselves with the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultanate from entering the State and called for legal action as well as investigations to be carried out against Nurul and Tian Chua.

The motion was tabled in the House in relation to the meeting between Nurul, Tian Chua and Jacel Kiram, the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram, the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan who ordered the armed intrusion to claim Sabah in 2013.
