Bersih Sabah steadfast in its plan to hold rally
Kota Kinabalu: Bersih Sabah is steadfast in its plans to hold Bersih 4 Kota Kinabalu (B4KK), with participants due to assemble at the Likas Bay Park 2, here, from Aug. 29 to Aug. 30.Bersih Sabah Organising Chairperson Jannie Lasimbang said they received tremendous support and are expecting some 2,000 people.

Describing the exchange of views with the City Police Chief ACP M Chandra on Thursday as good, Jannie said they will go ahead with plans to hold B4KK at the venue where the playground is, near the Anjung Selera food court in Likas Bay.

"I think the police have a mutual hope that the assembly will move in a peaceful manner but we have our own plans and we will go ahead with the plans with some of the considerations which we think are necessary to ensure that the peaceful assembly goes well," she said, outside the Karamunsing Police Station.

Participants are expected to assemble at the parking area next to the Sabah Trade Centre at noon before walking towards the set venue upon receiving instructions from the marshals in charge along with the organisers at 1pm in an orderly and safe manner.

"We want to make sure that we do things that do not go beyond the law and I think how the police act depends on how we conduct ourselves.

"We will not breach any barricades that may have been placed by police but, at the same time, hope the authorities will compromise with the request from the participants.

"We also hope police will assist with traffic control and the most important part is, instructions must be followed accordingly," she said.

She said they are aware of anti-Bersih groups but that Bersih Sabah had no intention to do anything which went beyond the law.

"Thus, as safety is a priority, we want to walk and be safe in a group and we hope for cooperation from the police not only in terms of enforcing order, but also against provocateurs."

"Bersih 4 is a peaceful assembly calling for free and fair elections, a clean government, strengthen parliamentary democracy system, the right to demonstrate and saving the national economy.

"Regardless of your politics, regardless of your stand, we invite everybody to look beyond that and come together for a better nation.

"I cannot say I am not fearful because I am, but I have come to a situation, to see the rationale to overcome our fear, for the sake of our future and our children's future and be brave to fight for a better nation," she said.

She denied allegations on WhatsApp that the organisers and perhaps some political party is giving out money to Bersih 4 participants.
