School and kindergarten destroyed in Semporna fire

Semporna: A primary school and a kindergarten were destroyed in a fire in Salakan island here, on Tuesday evening. District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Fazizul Borhan Nizam identified the premises as SK Pulau Salakan and Tabika Kemas Pulau Salakan. According to him, they received a distress call at about 2.36pm via MERS 999 and a team rushed to the scene on a fire engine, utility vehicle and boat.

He said the team only managed to reach the site at about 5.05pm due to the distance, adding that the operation ended at about 6.02pm.They were assisted by personnel from Sabah Parks and Joint Task Force 2 who arrived at the scene moments later.
He said no pupil was at the school because the school had only one session. "Nobody was reported hurt and the cause of fire is still being probed," he said.
