Kota Kinabalu: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) remains important and relevant to nation building and human development.Works Deputy Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said RTM is constantly moving forward and improved itself by ensuring the programmes offered are not only for entertainment but also capable of fulfilling other needs.

"This includes aspects of news and information broadcasting as well as efforts to develop the mind, shape values, nurture talents and develop the cultural heritage of the nation," she said when officiating the Jelajah Ramadan RTM Programme, Friday.

Therefore, she said, various programmes and approaches need to be taken for RTM to stay ahead as leaders in this competitive era while at the same time, improve themselves from time to time.

The programme was one of RTM's continuous efforts to get closer to its audience and the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

Various types of food including bubur lambuk, bubur cha cha, bean soup and traditional cookies were distributed to NGOs including the single mothers association, orphanage in Sembulan, the Prisons Department and mosques in and around Kepayan.

"This programme indirectly promotes RTM nationwide and gives its audience the opportunity to meet RTM icons and celebrities.

"To be sure, programmes such as these would relive the warm and familial relationships that may have been neglected over the years," said Rosnah.

The two-day programme was part of a week-long programme Statewide with similar programmes also organised in other districts including a five-day Jelajah Ramadan programme in Labuan.
