Through collaborative projects, industry partnerships, and a comprehensive curriculum, students are equipped with the skills and mindset necessary to excel in diverse career paths within the ever-evolving field of computing.
THE Computing faculty team at the Faculty of Engineering and Computing (FEC) at First City University College is embarking on a transformative journey to redefine computing education.

Under the guidance of FEC’s Acting Deputy Head, Sherryn Lim Wen-I, the Computing team is fervently dedicated to moulding multifaceted computing professionals, blending technical prowess with indispensable soft skills.

Currently, FEC boasts a repertoire of four dynamic computing degree programmes: the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Computer Science (Intelligent Systems) (Hons), Bachelor of Information Systems (Honours) in Business Management, and Bachelor of Information Technology (Networking and Security) (Hons).

Meanwhile, at the diploma level, students can enrol in the Diploma in Information Technology, with the eagerly awaited Diploma in Computer Science soon to follow.

In addition, there is the Foundation in Engineering, Science & Technology programme, giving students a solid academic foundation before joining their computing degree programmes.

At the core of the team’s vision is a commitment to interdisciplinary learning, recognizing that the field of computing intersects with myriad disciplines in today’s digital age.

The faculty team aims to integrate elements of mathematics, engineering, and even business studies into the curriculum, providing students with a holistic understanding of the field and its real-world applications.

“Our team advocates for a hands-on approach to learning, where students are actively engaged in projects, internships, and research opportunities.

By immersing themselves in practical experiences, students can develop problem-solving skills and gain valuable insights into industry practices,” Sherryn remarked.

“We also emphasise the importance of staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends and will continue to establish partnerships with leading tech companies and invite industry experts for guest lectures and workshops, ensuring that our curriculum remains relevant and up to date,” she added.

In addition to technical skills, Sherryn and her team recognise the significance of soft skills in today’s competitive job market.

Thus, they intend to incorporate elements of communication, teamwork, and leadership development in students’ learning, empowering them to excel not only as proficient technologists but also as effective collaborators and leaders.

Overall, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies and hands-on experience, the Computing faculty team at First City University College is dedicated to fostering innovation and adaptability in its students.
