Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) has finalised the list of the 25 players to defend their National Women’s League title this year as well as the 20 players who will be taking part in the Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Kuching this August.

A signing ceremony with the players and officials witnessed by Safa deputy president Datuk Awang Kadin Tang, Safa secretary general Shamsuddin Mohd Shah, Safa women football committee chairman Arziz Afizy Rumsani, Safa executive secretary David Wisom and Safa council member Datuk Razak Sulaiman was held at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Monday.

Arziz, who also manages both teams, is confident the players will deliver the goods.

“Our training has started early and I have confidence that with coach Justin Ganai and his team to guide the players, we will be able to defend our national league title,” he said.

Justin on the other hand, praised Arziz for his management skill and also to organise the signing ceremony preceded by talks on sport psychology and sport nutrition/anti-doping conducted by Nursyaditina Ain and Hasila Sekar respectively.

“This is the first time that I have witnessed an official signing ceremony like this for the women’s squad and this will no doubt lift the spirit of the players.

“Defending the title is obvious for the senior team but it won’t be easy, so we need to work extra hard together.

“As for the Sukma team, I may not be the coach but I hope by training together with the senior players will help the juniors to win the title,” he added.

Meanwhile, Petronella Dounty and Zaryatie Zakaria are assistants to Justin in the senior team with Conrad Mojungkim as goalkeeper coach and Mary Elizaberth Popong as assistant team manager.
