PAPAR: Residents here and nearby districts can now watch their desired movies at a 10Star Cinema building following its grand opening at Parklane City, Benoni, on Wednesday (May 1).

Its developer, WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen, said they no longer have to go to the State Capital for cinema entertainment.

The RM5.5 million community cinema will operate 24 hours, the first of its kind in Malaysia.

“This cinema is built and equipped with quality high-tech equipment that assures a cinematic experience to viewers.

“I built this cinema for my mother Datin Seri Chen Si Mui who inspired me to build a cinema in Papar.

She told me Papar used to have a cinema 40 to 50 years ago where she watched movies with her friends and met my late father Datuk Seri Dr Wong Kwok.

“So, I built this when 10Star Cinema Sdn Bhd came in and agreed to operate its cinema here.

“I wish the company all success because it is the fifth in Sabah with two in Tawau, one in Sandakan and another in Kota Marudu,” she said, after opening by Head of State Tun Dr Juhar Mahiruddin and consort Toh Puan Norlidah binti Tan Sri R.M. Jasni.

Juhar signed a plaque and watched a Malay blockbuster movie titled “Sheriff” at the Royal Blue Hall which is a VVIP hall with his family and senior officials.

Also present were Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living cum Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Kawang Assemblyman cum Yayasan Sabah Director Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, Kumpulan MAA Berhad Executive Chairman Tunku Dato’ Yaacob Khyra, Papar District Officer Mohd Fuad Abdullah, head of departments and community leaders.

“Sooner or later once every thing is set up, there will be six halls with 460 seats. Only three halls, including VVIP hall, are operating while the remaining three will be made available next week.

“Once the six halls are open to the public, the people here, especially young people, have a place to bring their families and friends to watch movies together,” Susan said.

She said 656 units of lifestyle condominiums at Parklane City, Benoni would be launched soon and provide ample job opportunities with many commercial premises such as popular fast food chains and upcoming Maybank to be opened, apart from Coop Bank.

Meanwhile, Tunku Dato’ Yaacob said 10Star Cinema Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MAA Group Berhad, is pleased to contribute community infrastructure development to Sabah.

The company also constructed an international secondary school in Kota Kinabalu that will begin operations this year –   a dream come true as he has always been passionate about providing good and quality education.
